SDG 5: Gender Equality
Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls
SDG 5 was developed to achieve emancipation for women and girls. “Equality between men and women is not only a human right but also the basis for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world,” according to the United Nations. SDG also stands for equal rights to economic resources and equal leadership opportunities. This includes, for example, right to a good education, right to economic resources, equal opportunities in leadership positions, and countering forced (child) marriage, and violence and discrimination against women.

How The Hague Contributes
The municipality has long been committed to equal rights and independence for women. For example, the municipality provides subsidies for organizations that organize activities for emancipation of women and queer persons. The municipality also has several programs for women's emancipation, queer emancipation and anti-discrimination. With these, the municipality works on equal opportunities for women and queer persons, resilience on the streets and at home, economic independence and increasing awareness. The most recent policy can be found in the Nota 'Inclusive Living Together'.
