SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
Access to Water and Sanitation for All
SDG 6 is desgined to ensure access to safe and affordable drinking water for everyone. By 2030, everyone must have access to appropriate and decent sanitation and hygiene. The water-based ecosystem must be well protected through efficient reuse of water and improved water quality must be ensured by limiting pollution. By limiting pollution, better water quality must also be ensured.
How The Hague Contributes
Drinking water supply in The Hague is provided by Dunea, which has been using 'dunewater' since 1874. This unique method, used worldwide, ensures high-quality drinking water purified by nature.
Dunea has placed a large number of faucets in public places. By refilling recyclable bottles at a water tap with cool, tasty and healthy drinking water (instead of buying and throwing away waterbottles) we save up to 5,000 kilos of CO2 per year per tap.
In addition, Living Lab Scheveningen offers space to several companies that develop technology. For example to make clean drinking water from seawater. This technology is applied in areas where clean drinking water is scarce or where climate change causes salinity of the fresh water.
