SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Make Cities Inclusive, Safe, Resilient and Sustainable

SDG 11 addresses the challenges cities will face in the future. This can be done by designing cities and human settlements in an inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable way. Everyone should be able to live well, healthy and sustainably and have access to basic facilities and safe and affordable housing. SDG 11 is also about reducing the environmental impact of cities.

How The Hague Contributes

In The Hague, the municipality as well as citizen initiatives and foundations are working proactively on strengthening the resilience of the city and its inhabitants. In addition, The Resilient The Hague team works on (and supports) various projects to make the city stronger and more resilient, with a focus on social issues. An integrated approach is used, with attention to both the physical environment (eg housing, mobility and public space) and social policy on youth, the elderly, welfare and education.
